Charles L. Cox, 72, of Claysville, died Friday, January 12, 2001, in his home. He was born July 8, 1928, in Pleasant Grove, a son of Howard J. and Sarah Harsha Cox.

Mr. Cox was a member of Enon Baptist Church.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard a destroyer from 1945 until 1949.

Mr. Cox owned and operated Cox TV in Claysville since 1958 and was also employed by Heinrich Funeral Home, Claysville.

He was a longtime constable for Claysville Borough and was a former borough chief of police.

Mr. Cox was a member of James R. Hunt American Legion Post 639, Claysville, and had been an active member of the Claysville Volunteer Fire Department since 1957. An avid dartball player, he enjoyed fishing and, in earlier years, sponsored and coached youth baseball.

On January 23, 1952, in Richmond, IN, he married Mary Lou Clutter, who survives. Also surviving are three brothers, Eugene H. Cox of Washington, Gaylord Cox of East Liverpool, OH, and Norman Cox of Canton, OH; two sisters, Violet Murphy of Canton and Betty Dinsmore of West Finley; and several nephews and nieces, including
Marilyn Parson of Claysville, whom he raised.

Deceased are a sister, Marguerite Bell; and two brothers, Paul and Donald Cox.

Services were held Monday, January 15, with the Rev. Bruce K. Merritt officiating. Interment
was in Enon Cemetery.
