rene James, 91, of 9479 Hwy. 90 Pocahontas (Dalton community), died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001 at her home. Born Oct. 28, 1909 in Dalton, she was a daughter of the late James Steven and Zillah (Chester) Brown. Mrs. James married C.E. James of Dalton on Sept. 22, 1928 and he preceded her in death in 1996. The couple owned and operated a general mercantile business at Dalton from the early 1940s through the 1970s. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ, and a former member of the Dalton Extension Homemakers Club. Sisters, Gladys Baker,
Marie Romines and Lucille Baker, and brothers, Tom and Jim Brown, also preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Doris Allen of Pocahontas. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Kenneth Camp officiating. Burial followed in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tony and Shane Baker, Jim and Josh Toney, Ricky Rider and Andy Allen.
