Kerry Kenneth Austin, 47, of Idaho Falls, ID, died July 28, 1998 in an accident at the Idaho Nuclear Engineering and Environmental Laboratory.

He was born March 11, 1951 in Brigham City, UT, to Kenneth G. and Voris Anderson Austin. He grew up in Garland, UT, and graduated from Bear River High School in 1969. He attended Utah State University and the University of Phoenix. Kerry served from 1971-72 in the LDS Alaska-Canada Mission. He married his best friend and sweetheart, Lyn Westergard, June 15, 1973 in the Logan LDS Temple. He worked at the U & I Sugar Factory at age 16 and then as an electrician for 21 years at Thiokol. He also worked at Cache Valley Electric, Morton and the INEEL as an electrician. He was a a Garland Fire Department volunteer for 13 years as a firefighter and on the First Response Unit. He was active in Scouting nd served as a Sunday School president and counselor, Elders Quorum president and as a Seventy in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was devoted to his wife and children, opening his home to family and friends, cooking, hunting, fishing and loving all the outdoors as long as his children were with him. He was a humorous, gentle man who graced everyone around him with unconditional love and regard.Survivors include his best friend and wife, Lyn Westergard Austin, of Idaho Falls; his children, Brady Kerry Austin and Benjamin Jay Austin, both of Garland, UT; Thomas Kenneth Austin, of Salt Lake City, UT; and Kerilyn Austin, of Idaho Falls, ID; his mother, Voris, of Garland, UT; his mother and father-in-law, Jay and Rowane Westergard, of Garland, UT; his sisters, Jeanette (Mike) Kosta, of Highlands Ranch, CO; and Wendy (Robert) Anderson, of Tooele, UT; his brother, James H. (Wendi) Austin, of Pleasant Grove, UT: and 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 1, 1998 1 p.m. at the Garland Tabernacle, 140 West Factory St., Garland, with Bishop William Crockett, officiating. Friends may call Fri, July 31st from 6-8 p.m. and Sat Aug 1st from 11:15-12:30 at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, UT. Interment, Garland Cemetery.
