GAFFNEY - Ruby Best Vassey Childers, 89, of 1012 Cherokee Avenue, died March 3, 2002 in the Peachtree Centre in Gaffney. A native of Buncombe County, N.C., she was the widow of Fred Childers and a daughter of the late Joseph Best and Nettie Adams Best. She was first married to the late Ed Vassey. She was a former sales representative of Stanley Home Products and was a member of Elm Street Church of God. Surviving are three sisters, Helen Jones and Beulah Harris, both of Gaffney, and Ethel Turner of Spartanburg; a brother, Frank Best of Gaffney; a daughter, Linda Parker of Texas; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 P.M. tonight at the Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home in Gaffney. Funeral services will be held at 4 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home's chapel, conducted by the Rev. James L. Garner. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney. The family is at the home, 1011 Cherokee Avenue, Gaffney.
