Mr. A.J. Winchester, Sr., 86, of Bradford died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Searcy.

He was born January 15, 1925 at Bradford, the son of Ernie and Nellie (McCall) Winchester.

Mr. Winchester retired from Bradford Schools after twenty-five years of service in the maintenance department and bus driver, and was a retired licensed plumber and carpenter. He was a member of the Cross Roads Church of Christ, and a United States Navy veteran, serving in World War II. Mr. Winchester lived in the same location his entire life, and enjoyed fox hunting, fishing, and helping people in need. He raised honey bees, and loved sharing his vegetables with the local community. He was known for making popcorn balls at Halloween, and peanut brittle at Christmas.

Mr. Winchester was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Goldman, Judge, and Pat Winchester; and three sisters, Ellen Willis, Mary Winchester, and Lady Jean Richards.

He is survived by four children, Linda Kay Otwell and husband Bud, A.J. Winchester, Jr., Richard Winchester, and Sandra Joyce Turner and husband Randy, all of Bradford; two sisters, Willie Mae Lance and Tina Hendershot, both of Bradford; eight grand-children, Ron Otwell, Travis Otwell, Candy Gilbert, Michael Snyder, Sebrina Winningham, Stacie Canada, Mary Turner, and Joshua Turner; thirteen great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Cross Roads Church of Christ. Interment was in Smith Cemetery.
