"One of the African American leaders (1851-1861) of the U.S. League of Gileadites organized by the famed abolitionist John Brown in 1851 in Springfield.

Perry Frank Adams and his wife Harriet A. (Bailey) were married in the home of Frederick Douglass in Lynn, Mass. on Nov. 11, 1847.

They were also colonists to Drurea, Haiti, returning to Springfield after the settlement failed."
