STEPHEN FELDER, RETIRED OFFICER, DIES IN 71ST YEAR
Rites or Veteran Policeman, Who Was a Native Of Germany, Will Be Held Tuesday Morning.

Stephen Felder, 70, who retired December 1 after 43 years of service with the Atlanta police department, died yesterday afternoon at his home, 796 Amsterdam avenue, NE. He had been in ill health for several months but his condition had been considered critical only for a short time.

A native of Germany, he came to this country at the age of 18 and had made his home here since. Prior to joining the police force, he served several years with the Southern Railway. He was a patrolman on the Decatur street beat for 25 years and for the 15 years prior to his retirement had been stationed at Highland and Virginia avenues.

His only visit to Germany was made about four years ago. After his return he became ill and was forced to undergo an operation. His health subsequently was better, but it began failing again about a year ago. He continued working, however, until November 1, and his retirement became effective a month later.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs A S Gowen; six sons, J E, A J, Steve, C G, E W and J D Felder, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning at the Sacred Heart church by the Rev Father J B Reid, RN. Burial will be under the direction of J Austin Dillon.

Pallbearers will be A J Holcombe, W A Fain, Pat Campbell, Paul West, Gibb Davis and T O Sturdivant.

In re Stephen Felder Declaration of Intention to become a Citizen.
Be it remembered, That on the 25th day of November in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety five, personally appeared before me O C Fuller Clerk of the Circuit Court of the United States, in and for the Northern District of Georgia, Stephens Felder, who being duly sworn, upon his oath, says that his name is Stephens Felder that he was born in the Republic of France that he is about 26 years of age, has light eyes, dark hair, and light complexion, that he is a subject of the Republic of France and that his allegiance is due to the Republic of France that he emigrated from Harve and landed at New York in the State of New York in the United States, in the month of October 1889, and that he intends to settle in the State of Georgia. And further this Deponent says, That it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly to the Republic of France of whom he is now a subject.
Sworn to and subscribed before me, this 25th day of Nov 1895. Stephens Felder. O C Fuller, Clerk, US Circuit Court for Northern District of Georgia.
