Funeral services for John Leva Ashby, age 82, of Rt. 2, Vardaman were held Monday, Jan. 31 at Houston Funeral Home. Burial was in Ellzy Cemetery with the Rev. Winfred Brasher, Rev. Ben Goodwin and Rev. Grady Hudson officiating. Mr. Ashby died Sat., Jan 29 at Houston Community Hospital.
The son of the late Dave H. Ashby and the late Edna Neal, he was a farmer. The WW II veteran was born in Van Vleet and was a member of Young's Chapel Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ulma Marie Criddle Ashby of Vardaman; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Dogan of Grenada and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Roger Carpenter, Jimmy Neal, Criddle M. Gregory, James Dogan, Hugh Hardin and Glenn Criddle. Houston Funeral Home was in charge of arrrangements.
