BURIED IN HIS OWN YARD
John Fetzer of Sycamore Sleeps Under Big Tree in Accordance with His Wish Was Pioneer and Eccentric John Fetzer, who died at his home seven miles northwest of Independence yesterday morning of grippe, was buried yesterday afternoon in the yard of his home under a large tree, the family carrying out his wishes in this respect. Mr. Fetzer had resided in the vicinity of Sycamore since 1869, coming there from Ohio, where he was born in 1844. He bought his homestead from the United States government. He is survived by a son, Milo Fetzer, residing on the home place, and two daughters, Mary at home, and Mrs. Barts, living neat Sycamore. Mr. Fetzer was a school teacher when he first came to the Sycamore neighborhood and many middle-aged people of this county went to school to him. He was well read and had an excellent command of English. Few flaws could be picked in his sentences, paragraphs or themes, but his religious views set him apart from other people and brought him into conflict at times with the authorities because of efforts to have his affairs turned over to probate court. Many stories are told of his eccentricities, one of these relating to the late A. B. Clark, one of the ablest attorneys who ever helped to make Montgomery-county history. Mr. Clark had acted for Mr. Fetzer in a hard fought legal contest and the latter came into his office one day and expressing high appreciation of the services rendered stated that he in-intended to fittingly reward the attorney. Naturally Mr. Clark expected a substantial fee, and history makes no record of what he said" when Mr. Fetzer announced that as a reward for Mr. Clark's good work he would anoint the lawyer "God's attorney." ,
