DOROTHY BEATRICE LAFORCE SWANTON - Dorothy Beatrice LaForce, 88, formerly of Colchester, died peacefully at home with her son Raymond by her side. Dorothy was born in Montgomery, on Sept. 23, 1920, the daughter of George and Sadie (McNall) Warren. She was married on Oct. 7, 1950 to Raymond F. LaForce, Sr., who predeceased her on April 16, 2002. Dorothy enjoyed knitting hats and mittens for children at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Winooski for many years, and was a whiz at circle books and puzzles. She is survived by her son, Raymond F. LaForce Jr. and his wife Debbie of Swanton; four grandsons, Justin of Colchester, Travis of Winooski, and Frederick Jr. and Jesse of Texas.; two sisters, Hilda Dennis of Saratoga, N.Y., and Betty McGuinness of South Burlington; her brother-in-law, Donald Durivage of Bolton; her husband's family of Burlington; her best friend, Joanne Prince of Milton; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Fred LaForce on Feb. 4, 1977; three sisters, Betsy, Anna, and Ella; and by two brothers, Elmer and Johnnie. The LaForce family extend their special thanks to the Hospice Volunteer Program for the care and kindness to Dorothy over the past few years. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. in Winooski. Funeral services will be at LaVigne Funeral Home on Friday, March 27 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Champlain Valley, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446, or to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478.
