Corporal Anthony L. Williams, 21, of Oxford, Pa., was a 2006 graduate of Oxford Area High School. He joined the Marine Corps on June 12, 2006 and was trained as a combat engineer at Parris Island, South Carolina. He deployed to Iraq from August 2007 to February 2008, and deployed to Afghanistan in February, 2009, assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He died March 22 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. His awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Iraq Campaign Medal, Sharpshooter Ribbon, and the National Defense Service Medal. Anthony is survived by his mother, Kathryn E Cleckler of Clanton, AL; father, Willie Lee Williams, Jr. of Oxford; step-mother, Lisa; one brother, Alex M. Williams and one sister, Amanda M. Williams, both of Newport, TN; half sister Kalynne E Scott of Clanton, AL; half brother John-Kenneth C Scott of Clanton, AL; one step-sister, Brittany Onslager of Boothwyn; his paternal grandparents, Willie Lee Williams, Sr. and Dorothy Marie Williams of Newport; and his paternal great-grandparents, Lewis and Dortha McMichael of Oxford. His funeral service was held on March 28, 2009, at Beulah Baptist Church, Oxford with burial in the church cemetery.
