Harold W. Abert, 49, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., formerly of Edwardsville, died at 1:50 a.m. Sunday in the Anna-Henry Nursing Home [Edwardsville]. He had been ill the past six months.
Mr. Abert was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Alhambra, a son of the late Albert and Lucie Dietz Abert.
He was a resident of the Edwardsville area until moving to Cape Girardeau five years ago.
He was married to the former Vernice Brendel on Jan. 19, 1941. Mrs. Abert survives.
Besides his wife, Mr. Abert is survived by a son, Larry P. Abert, a daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Judy) Vallino, and a brother, Ray Abert, all of Edwardsville.
Mr. Abert was the manager of A.A.A. Equipment Co., Cape Girardeau.
He was affiliated with Eden United Church of Christ, Edwardsville, and was a member of Scottish Rites, Ainad Temple, East St. Louis, and of Edwardsville Lodge 99, A.F. & A.M.
He was a member of the International Association of Machinists, Lodge 313, Granite City,.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Weber Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, the Rev. Thomas R. Tupper, pastor of Eden United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.
Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
