Alcy Hill and Isaac Darneille were part of two separate wagon trains in 1853, each taking the eastern Oregon "shortcut" from the Oregon Trail. Instead of continuing on the Oregon Trail to the Columbia River and thus on to Oregon City, the wagon trains headed through eastern Oregon along the Malheur River as their ultimate goal was the Willamette Valley.

Isaac Darneille and his family were in a wagon train originally headed by Elijah Elliott. These wagon trains merged and became known as "The Lost Wagon Train" because of the difficulties they encountered when they took Elliott's advice to try a "short-cut". Other wagon trains also taking this infamous shortcut joined the others, thus becoming a 300-wagon group.

Upon arriving in Eugene, the Hills and Darneilles took out Donation Land Claims located in the area where Junction City is now. Thus was laid out the groundwork for the eventual marriage of Alcy and Isaac. In 1853, Isaac was 14 and Alcy was 7 years old.

Alcy Jane married Isaac Darneille, 20 October 1861, in Lane Co., Oregon. She was 13 years of age, turning 14 a month later. It was not uncommon to find girls marrying at this young age during these times.
