Hans Detlef Baeth was born Feb. 12, 1855, in Zenhusen, Northern Dithmarschen, Germany, and died Jan. 14, at his home, at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 2 days.

He came to America in 1871 and settled in Chicago. he was married in 1875 to Catherine Petersen and to this union seven children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Baeth moved to Crawford County in 1884, and Mrs. Baeth died in 1889. In 1891 he was married to Marie Wittahn and this union was blessed with 14 children, eight of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. Baeth served as county supervisors from 1906 to 1912. In 1916 he retired from the farm and moved to Schleswig. in 1941 Mr. and Mrs. Baeth observed their golden wedding anniversary.

He leaves to mourn his wife and 13 children, namely: Henry, Malta, Mont.; George, Libby, Mont; Mrs. E. D. Johson, Thorp, Wis.; Hans, Marion, N.D.; Mrs. Chas. Miller, Schleswig; Mrs. Henry Nickelsen, Deerfield, Ill.; Mrs. Fred Johannsen, Correctionville; John, Charlie, Robert all of Schleswig; Louis, Blencoe; Peter, Seattle, Wash.; and Harvey, who is in the navy. There are 53 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Friedens church with Rev. Rinne in charge. Interment in Morgan cemetery.
