Charles R. Baeth (1896 - 1977 )

Charles R. Baeth was born Jan. 1, 1896 near Schleswig, the son of Hans and Marie Baeth. He died Dec. 23, 1977 at Horn Memorial Hospital, Ida Grove, at the age of 81.

Charles was raised on a farm near Schleswig and received his formal education in the rural schools of the area. He was baptized and later confirmed into the United Church of Christ.

Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War I with overseas duty in Germany. On April 28, 1920 he was united in marriage to Hattie Hein at Flandreau, S.D. Together they made their home on a farm near Schleswig where Charles worked as a mechanic for the farmers of the area. To this union were born two daughters.

In 1940 Charles and Hattie moved to Schleswig. Hattie died in 1943 and Charles continued to make his home in Schleswig. He was a member of the Schleswig V.F.W. and the American Legion.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, four half-brothers and three half-sisters.

Survivors include, two daughters, Phyllis, Mrs. Wesley Bush of Galva, and Verda, Mrs. John Lintin of Soldier. Also by seven grandchildren, three great, grandchildren and three brothers, John of Schleswig; Louie of Moorhead, and Harvey of Fort Worth, Texas.
