William Ernest Botkin, 81, a retired farmer of Rt. 2, Harrisonburg and formerly of Headwaters, died Tuesday night (Oct. 2, 1971) of an apparent heart attack.
He was born May 29, 1890, at Palo Alto, a son of Jim and Ruhemia (Bowers) Botkin.
Mr. Botkin was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Brethren Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Vernie (Armstrong) Botkin of Harrisonburg; five daughters, Mrs. Vergie James of Waynesboro, Mrs. Dorothy Hupman and Mrs. Wilma Wimer, both of Staunton, Mrs. Annie Lee McCray of Headwaters and Mrs. Alice Shifflett of Harrisonburg; four sons, Leeson and Weldon, both of Harrisonburg and Roscoe and Joseph Botkin both of Staunton; a brother, Pearl Bodkin of Staunton; one half sister, Mrs. Janie Grant of Staunton; two half-brothers, Lonnie of West Augusta and Henry Botkin of Headwaters; 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Friday at Headwaters Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Isaac Garber, the Rev. Bobby Phillips and the Rev. Guy Wampler with burial in Headwaters Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Mitchell, Gerald Baldwin, Walter Wampler, Homer Hamilton, Bryon Pitsenbarger and Gene Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers will be World War I veterans fo Post 2073 and Roy Hodge, Homer Smith, Paul Diehl, Herbert and Gordon Armstrong, Dr. C. T. Riddle, Clyde Liskey, Ralph Miller, Ernest Kelly, Fred Bowers, Richard Wimer and friends and relatives attending the services.
The family will receive friends at the Obaugh Funeral Home Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m.
