Wylie Barham is the son of Benjamin Franklin Barham and his first wife, Mary Catherine Ruffner Barham.

He left the Shenandoah Valley for the west after his mother's death. Her obituary lists Everett and Wylie as being at her funeral in 1892 and states that they had a business in Cumberland, Maryland. What took him to Indiana, Oklahoma and, later, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is unknown. He was living in Guthrie, Oklahoma, in 1900 and 1902 with his wife Amanda Barnes Barham. He was a musician, playing the cornet, and taught music throughout his life. During his time in Guthrie and Cedar Rapids he played the cornet in the First Regiment Army Reserve Unit and Amanda taught harp and piano.

While the gravestone states "Beloved husband and father" Wylie and Amanda had no children and, in fact, they divorced around 1938. He married Lillian Ursula Burke on September 22, 1942, suggesting the children were those of Lillian (his step-children.)

Wylie died in Oklahoma City in 1954. Amanda Barnes Barham remained in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and died there in 1946. Lillian Ursula Burke Barham died in Oklahoma City in 1974.
