MRS. BESSIE BELL PARKER – The Rosary with be recited at 7 p.m. today in Nolan Funeral Home for Mrs. Bessie Bell Parker, Juniper Valley, who died at a local hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be read at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pauline Chapel in Broadmoor. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Harrington will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Parker was born June 1, 1886, in Fountain and was a lifetime resident of the area. Her grandparents, the Schiedlers, were pioneers who settled in the Monument area. Her paternal grandparents homesteaded Mesa View Ranch. Her father, Frank Cross, took over the ranch and changed its’ name to Juniper Valley Ranch. At one time the ranch took in most of the Ft. Carson area. Eventually the ranch was owned and operated by Mrs. Parker and her husband, James Guy Parker, along with her parents. Mrs. Parker was married July 2, 1904 in Pueblo. Her husband was known locally as the “Cowboy Artist” and was the author of “Reckless Rube”, a newspaper column. He died in 1961. Mrs. Parker was a Roman Catholic. She is survived by four daughters, Evelyn Ellis, Ethel Shirola and Elizabeth Davis, all of Juniper Valley, and Lila Smith, Salida; a sister, Frances Scala, Alliance, Neb.; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren
