Ai was Tanner, Postmaster, Merchant, born in New Market, Tennessee.

His parents were Benjamin and Sarah Hays Thornburgh.

Ai is one of the early settlers of New Market before the Railroad was built.

In this town, mail was supplied to the people in and around New Market by Stage Coach....After the Railroad was built in 1856, the New Market Post office became a distribution center for mail.

Mail was supplied by Star Route to 17 Post Offices. One of the Post Offices was named Thornburgh. Mr. A.I. Thornburgh is believed to be the first Post Master. He also operated a General Store. The large brick building next door to the present Post Office was owned by Major Thornburgh.

A.I. married Mary Landsdown the 21st of September 1817. License granted 16 Sept. 1817 and marriage was performed by William Mills, JP.

Mary is buried beside her husband in Presbyterian Cemetery in New Market Tennessee.

She was born 11 October 1791 in North Carolina and died March 20 1876.

Their children (from this source) are Sarah, Benjamine, Montgomery, Amelia, Sophia, Mary Angeline, John Wesley, Russell and Duff Green Thornburgh, Ellis Thornburgh, Andrew Lafayette Thornburgh.
