He married Tabitha Anne Ashby, daughter of Henry Ashby and Judith Shumate, November 30, 1834 in Chariton County, Missouri. James McFerran died February 4, 1866 in Triplett Township, Chariton County, Missouri.

(3) Jasper N. McFerran, born abt. 1846-48, Chariton Co., Missouri, died 25 January, 1865 while a prisoner at Rock Island Barracks, Illinois. He is buried in the Rock Island Confederate Cemetery in Grave 1819. His tombstone lists his name as Jos. N. McFerren. A Rock Island Barracks Record clearly lists his name as Jasper N. McFerran.
(4) Julia (twin) Ann McFerran, born 14 June, 1852, Chariton Co., Missouri, died between 1869 and 1870 in Chariton County, Missouri. Presumed to be buried in McAllister/Kennedy Cemetery.
(5) Susan (twin) Elizabeth McFerran, born 14 June, 1852, Chariton Co., Missouri, died 14 December 1904, Cottonwood, Idaho
