James McFerran, son of Thomas McFerran and Mary "Polly" Carper, was probably born in Botetourt County, Virginia. James was in Chariton County, Missouri by 1834. He married Tabitha Anne Ashby, daughter of Henry Ashby and Judith Shumate, November 30, 1834 in Chariton County, Missouri. James McFerran died February 4, 1866 in Triplett Township, Chariton County, Missouri.

James and Tabitha McFerran had the following children:

(1) Thomas Henry McFerran, born 7 January 1835, Chariton Co., Missouri, died 25 Sept 1865, Chariton Co., Missouri

(2) James A. McFerran, born 11 January, 1842, Chariton Co., Missouri, died 31 Aug., 1861, Chariton Co., Missouri

(3) Jasper N. McFerran, born abt. 1846-48, Chariton Co., Missouri, died 25 January, 1865 while a prisoner at Rock Island Barracks, Illinois. He is buried in the Rock Island Confederate Cemetery in Grave 1819. His tombstone lists his name as Jos. N. McFerren. A Rock Island Barracks Record clearly lists his name as Jasper N. McFerran.

(4) Julia (twin) Ann McFerran, born 14 June, 1852, Chariton Co., Missouri, died between 1869 and 1870 in Chariton County, Missouri. Presumed to be buried in McAllister/Kennedy Cemetery.

(5) Susan (twin) Elizabeth McFerran, born 14 June, 1852, Chariton Co., Missouri, died 14 December 1904, Cottonwood, Idaho

After James McFerran died, Tabitha Anne Ashby McFerran moved to Benton County, Arkansas with her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Elizabeth McFerran Eller and Joseph Michael Franklin Eller. Tabitha McFerran died in Benton County, Arkansas 27 January, 1884, and is buried in the Bethel Cemetery near Gravette, Arkansas.
