Mariana Speicher Schulz, daughter of Alvin T Speicher & his wife Esther Etta Helm Speicher.

Mariana's mother died during the Great Flu Epidemic when she was 3 yrs old. She was raised by her father, maternal grandmother Sarah Ann Bussard Helm & sister Martha M Speicher Austin.

She graduated from Central High School, North Manchester, where her mother & 3 siblings also graduated from.

During the war years of WWII, she was in Civil Service and worked as a civilian secretary on bases in Gulfport & Biloxi, MS. After the war she returned to IN.

She went to International Business College, secretarial studies for 1 yr, attended Manchester College for 2 yrs & took night classes at IU Extension, when it was downtown Fort Wayne.

Until she retired she did office work, clerical, secretarial & accounting.

In an IU accounting class, she met Hilda Schulz & through Hilda, her brother Fred.

2nd wife & 1st married on 9 Sep 1950 in Decatur, IN to Frederick W "Fred" Schulz, son of Otto C Schulz & his wife Ida O Affelt Schulz . He died 23 Nov 1962.

They were members of St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne

Shortly after his death in 1962, she moved to 1005 Lincoln Ave, Forth Wayne. This would be her home until 2001, when she moved to Peabody Home in North Manchester.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her 3 siblings, Martha Speicher Austin, Thoburn "Toby" Speicher & Vernice Speicher Tomlinson.

She is survived by her much loved numerous nieces & nephews.

Mariana Speicher Schulz, 95, of North Manchester, formerly of Fort Wayne, died on Friday, Jan 28, 2011, at Peabody Retirement Community.

Born November 28, 1915, in North Manchester, she was the daughter of Alvin T Speicher and Esther Etta Helm Speicher.

She graduated from North Manchester's Central High School, then International Business College. Mariana joined Civil Service during World War II and moved to Mississippi to work as secretary and bookkeeper on military bases in Gulfport and Biloxi. She returned to Indiana to attend Manchester College for two years, and again to Fort Wayne where she worked in the insurance industry until she retired in 1985.

Mariana met her best friend Hilda Schulz, and Hilda's brother Fred, while taking Accounting night courses at Indiana University Extension downtown Fort Wayne.

She married Fred Schulz on Sept 9, 1950, in Decatur Ind. They were members of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.

She is survived by nieces, Anna Stump of Pierceton, Lois Kersey of Galena, Kan, Rose (Richard) Simon of Chandler Ariz, Mary (Gene) Tomlinson of San Antonio Texas; nephews, William Austin of South Whitley and Gerald Austin of Huntington.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters; Martha Austin, and Vernice Tomlinson; brother, Thoburn "Toby" Speicher. Arrangements by D O McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue.
