C Earl Harpine, a well known carpenter and cabinet maker and a prominetnt resident of Montezuma died at 4:10 Wednesday afternoon at his home. Mr Harpine had not enjoyed good health for several years and suffered from a heart condition.
A son of Mrs. Abbie Niswander Harpine and the late Charles M Harpine, he was born on Dec 12, 1895 in Rockingham County and spent a number of years in the Broadway community. He had been making his home in the Montezuma section for 14 years.
Mr. Harpine was formerly employed by M.A. Layman and Sons. He also was in business for himself and in more recent years operated his own cabinet shop in his home. He was a member of the Montezuma Church of the Brethren.
On may 20, 1944, he married Miss Cora Shickel who survives him. Besides his wife he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Abbie Niswander Harpine of both Montezuma and Harrisonburg; and one sister, Mrs. W.B. Smith, of Harrisonburg.
Mr Harpine was a veteran of World War I.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Montezuma Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Paul D Crumley will conduct the services, assisted by Rev. S.D. Glick and Rev. F Wise Driver. Burial will be in the Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
The body now rests at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Bridgewater where it will remain until this afternoon at 3:30 when it will be taken to his late home. His body will be removed to the church on Friday afternoon at one o'clock.
Active pallbearers, who are nephews, will be Glen Smith, Carlton H Shickel, Harold Shickel, Weldon S Shickel, Marcel K Shickel and Alvan Kennedy.
Honoray pallbearers will be members of the Men's Sunday School Class of the Montezuma Church of the Brethren.
Friends and active and honorary pallbearers are sked to meet at the church at 2:15 Friday afternoon. The relatives meet at his home at 2:15 for a brief prayer service.
