JONESPORT - Milton Fairfield Beal, 74, died peacefully Sept. 27, 2007. He was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Jonesport, the son of Milton L. and Lucy (Kelley) Beal. Milton graduated from Jonesport High School, Class of 1950, attended Maine Central Institute for one year, and then attended the University of Maine in Orono for two years. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served for two years in the Signal Corps, stationed in Japan. He received a Bachelor of Science in education from Washington State Teacher's College in 1959, and then taught at Machias Memorial High School for three years. In 1962, he moved to Rockville, Conn., and taught for 11 years at the Bentley School, Manchester, Conn. He received a Master of Education from the University of Hartford in 1971. Milton and his family returned to Jonesport in 1972, where he became a wholesale seafood dealer, and continued buying lobsters until recently. Milton cherished the company of his friends in his home as well as cooking. He was an avid Red Sox fan, was a member of the Rogers-Worcester Post No. 108 of the American Legion, and most enjoyed relaxing on his front deck looking out on Englishman's Bay. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marie S. Beal; and his children, son, Brian F. and his wife, Ruth, of Marshfield, daughter, Beth (Beal) Carver and her husband, Albert, of Beals, and son, Brent L. and his wife, Linisa, of Hermon; and grandchildren, Chelsie M. Carver, Hannah A. and Caleb F. Beal, Morgan M. and Benjamin L. Beal. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport, with Pastor George Woodward officiating. After the service, friends are invited to the family home at 942 Mason's Bay Road, to celebrate Milt's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Milt's name may be sent to Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church or the charity of one's choice.
