M.R. Roberts, 74 of 1796 North 15th St. died at 5:10 pm Thursday in Oakland, California.
He and a daughter, Mrs. Richard Wicklund, of Fort Worth were visiting Mr. Roberts two sisters there.
He died following a stroke. Funeral is pending arrival of the body from California and arrangements will be announced by Laughter North Funeral home.
Born October 1, 1879 in Alabama Mr. Roberts moved to Lawn in 1893. He was in the dry goods and grocery business in Lawn and Ovalo for several years. For 10 or 12 years he had the Abilene Shade and Awning Co. here. He retired several years ago. Since the death of his wife in 1949 Mr. Roberts lived with his daughter, Mrs. A.E. Birdwell, at 1790 North 15th St. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Other survivors are four sisters, Mrs. H.V. Riddle of Ovalo, Mrs. J.W. Elliott of Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. Mattie Albright and Mrs. A.L. Roberts of Oakland. Three brothers, H.R. of Ovalo. W.L. of Tuscola and Tom E. of 2758 Jeanette St. and three grandchildren.

He was buried in the Abilene Cemetery on Jun 1, 1954.

His Mothers Maiden name Landers.
