Orpha L. Hall
Orpha Hall, 93, a long-time resident of Grand Junction, died Friday at the Mesa Manor Nursing Home.
Born Orpha L. Shugar on July 19, 1885, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she spent her childhood in Western Nebraska and at age 10 moved into the Grand Valley, where she crossed the Colorado River to Palisade on a ferry.
On July 4, 1903, she married James Edward Hall at a ceremony in Unaweep Canyon. He was a warehouse foreman for Morey Mercantile. He preceded her in death December 13, 1961. Two sons and two daughters also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hall enjoyed composing poetry and writing about her past life in the valley.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah.
Survivors: daughter, Dorothy Hall of Grand Junction; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
