Farlow Reed Sr. was born in Whitley county, Ky., May 16, 1816; moved to Missouri with his parents in the year of 1833, and settled in Jackson county 3 1/2 miles west of Independence. He married Nancy Horton of Cass county, Mo., in the year of 1836, after which they settled in Cass county, living together until death separated them in the year of 1840. She died in full faith and trusting in the Lord. Then in the course of time he was married to Marry Keffer of Jackson county, and in the year of 1842 they both united with the M. E. church and were both buried together in baptism in Grand River, Mo., in the year of 1844, and in 1863 he moved to Miami county, Kan., living together until death separated they in the year of 1867. She died in full faith and trustin in the Lord. Then in the course of time he married again to Eliza J. Armfield of Miami county, Oct. 19, 1871, they living together until God saw fit to remove him home March 25, 1896, aged 79 years, 10 months and 16 days. He died as he had lived, trusting in his God leaving his third wife to mourn his loss. He was the father of 14 children, two by his first wife and 12 by his second wife. Three died and 11 living, all member of some church except three. There are 49 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, making in all 62 children.
