Jim's father was Cyrenus (Cyrus) Wait Davis and his mother was Gemima Ann (Gennie) Turpin. He and Mary Ella had the following children: Vera Ola (married Abraham Lincoln Hawkins), Gertrude ("Gerdie" died at age 4 to 6), James Virgil (married Charlotte "Lottie" Hawkins), Clara Etta (married George Washington Cummings of Barney Community), Ruby Bell (married first to Bill Qualls, second to _____ Turnbow, and her third husband was Horace Darby), Cy Madison (first married to and had 3 children by Edith Arlie Polk and in a second marriage to Daisy Elizabeth White had one child), and Thomas Jefferson (birth certificate reads "Thomas Jeffrey", but he used "Jefferson" all his life) (married Valta Mae Shock). Jim married Mary Ella Henderson on February 03, 1901, in Faulkner County, Arkansas. Mary Ella contacted Tuberculosis shortly after their last child, Thomas, was born on July 05, 1914. She was institutionalized in the sanitorium at Booneville, Arkansas, and died there on October 18, 1915. On November 15, 1916, Jim married Mary Ann Hawkins Brewer, whose husband, Silas "Bud" Brewer, had died on January 12, 1915. Jim and Mary Ann had two girls: Betty Madine Davis (married Herman Moss of Morrilton) and Eva Davis (married Carl Bumpers of Olathe, Kansas).
