His 1st cousin twice removed, August Orf, was married to my 2nd great aunt, Anna Gentemann Orf. Russ's family were friends with my grandparents, Harry and Ursula Gentemann Wolf. My aunt, Betty, and uncle, Henry "Hank" Wolf, went to school and were friends with Russ and his sister, Virginia Schooley. I worked at McDonald's on 8th St. in Colorado Springs while I was in high school (early 1980's). Two or 3 of his children worked there. We knew there was a family connection but didn't know exactly how. His son just said that he knew his Dad was related to my grandparents. When I asked my Mom she knew too but didn't know the connection. Glad I was finally able to figure it out after all these years. There is also a very distant relationship through his mother's side of the family.

G. Russell Freymuth, 75, passed away on December 29, 2003 at a local hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 63 years.

G. Russell Freymuth was born on Sept. 30, 1928 in St. Charles, MO, to Aloys A. Freymuth and Catherine E. (Ross) Freymuth. Mr. Freymuth was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charles R. and his sister Virginia Schooley. Mr. Freymuth is survived by his wife, Dolores and ten children, Lawrence A. (wife Pat) of Longmont, CO, Terrence M. of Colorado Springs; Christopher A. of Ft. Collins, CO, Joseph J. of Lonetree, CO, Marie E. Reed of Glendale, CA, Timothy J. of Colorado Springs, CO, Frank F. (wife Marla) of Denver, CO, Robert E, Katherine R, and Stephan C. (wife Marji) of Colorado Springs, CO. Mr. Freymuth is also survived by five grandsons and five granddaughters, his aunts Edna Nicholson of Colorado Springs, CO, Lucille Ross of Wentzville, MO, and many other relatives and friends.

The Freymuth family moved to Colorado Springs in the fall of 1940 because of Russell's father's failing health. As a youngster he and his brother Charlie sold newspapers and went door-to-door selling magazines to assist the family financially. Russell was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic High School, class of 1946, and attended Blair Business College at night. Russell began working at the Broadmoor Hotel in 1943, at the age of 14, as a busboy. From that young beginning he became a room-service waiter, personal valet to Mrs. Spencer Penrose, waiter, bellman, Reservations Manager, Assistant Manager, and General Manager. During his younger years, he was also the owner/operator of many small businesses, including an auto body shop, a service station, a radio and TV repair shop, and an insurance agency. He contracted with a major computer company to install the first computer system at the Broadmoor which was later implemented throughout the hotel industry. Mr. Freymuth retired from the Broadmoor as Vice President and Director of Technological Development in 1990 after 47 years of dedicated service.
