Ida Mae Hammon Dies
Ida Mae Hammon, 90, 315 1/2 S. Summit St., died at 8:50 p.m. Friday night in Memorial Hospital. She had been a patient there a week, but had been in ill health about two years.
Ida Mae Hammon was born Sept. 30, 1875, in Forest City, Mo., the daughter of Mary Augusta Chapman and Enoch Gamble. She married Albert Eugene Hammon April 8, 1895, at Newkirk, Okla.
Hammon made a run into the Cherokee Strip, and they lived for many years in Kay County. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1927, and she moved to Arkansas City the following year.
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Ethel) Stevenson, 607 South C St., Mrs. Matt (Edna) Chambers and Mrs. Roy (Minnie) Kittredge 316 1/2 S. Summit St., a former daughter-in-law, Rebecca Hammon Morrison, 718 South A St., two grandchildren, five great grandchildren. Twins, Virgil and Virgie died in infancy, and another son, Leslie died in 1934.
Mrs. Hammon was a member of the Grandview Methodist church for many years, where her services will be held Monday Nov. 1, at 10 a.m. with Dr. Clarence Hamm officiating.
Burial will be in Springside cemetery, beside her husband with Grant-Elder Funeral Home in charge.
