Jennie Borgialli Pastega of Klamath Falls died Jan. 3, 2012, in Klamath Falls of natural causes.
Jennie Pastega was born in Lehigh, Okla., on Jan. 31, 1914, to Mary Gillio Borgialli and Joe Borgialli. Her family moved to Cambria, Wyo., where she was raised and educated until 1924 when the family moved to Klamath Falls.
In 1933, Jennie was married to Louie Pastega. They moved to Lodi, Calif., in 1941, but returned to Klamath Falls in 1943 when Louie purchased Louie's Food Store at 147 E. Main St. This store was a very successful business, being the first grocery in Klamath Falls to be open until midnight, on Sundays, and holidays. Mrs. Pastega always worked alongside her husband in his various businesses as well as raising their sons and keeping up their home.
In 1955, they bought the family store, Pastega's Market, in Pelican City. This store was originally Louie Pastega's father's store, founded in 1923. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Pastega ran the family business until closing it in 1998, concluding 75 years of continuous operation.
Jennie Pastega enjoyed her family. She was an excellent wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She became an accomplished businesswoman and catered to her many customers and friends in the Pelican City area.
Jennie was an accomplished cook, specializing in Northern Italian foods. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, but mostly enjoyed people.
Mrs. Pastega was a member of the Sons and Daughters of Italy, Lodge Camelia-Colombo No. 1294, Catholic Daughters, and Eagles Lodge. She was the wife of an Elk.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louie in 1976, her granddaughter Leah in 1992, two brothers Bert Borgialli and Louie Borgialli and three sisters Margaret Gerbino, Chastine Roberts, and Rose Shaver.
Survivors include her sons Richard Louis Pastega of Klamath Falls and Robert Leland and his wife Debbie Pastega of Redding, Calif., seven nieces, and two nephews.
