BURLINGAME --- Jean Elizabeth Cummickel, 96, Burlingame, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, in Lyndon.

She was born Feb. 26, 1907, at Burlingame, the daughter of Alexander and Jean Nicol Ure. She grew up in Burlingame and graduated from Burlingame High School in 1925. During the 1925-26 school year, she served as an elementary school teacher for District 105, Burlingame Country School. She moved to Topeka in 1926, where she worked at the YMCA and attended Capitol City Business School.

She lived in Kansas, Missouri, Alabama and Mississippi, and returned to Topeka in May 1970. She moved back to Burlingame in October 1993, after being away for some 67 years. She resided in the Townsite Apartment Complex until January 2002, when she moved to the Hilltop Home in Lyndon.

She married Arthur W. Cummickel on Dec. 20, 1926, in Topeka. He preceded her in death in April 1988, after 62 years of marriage. Her daughter, Delores C. Burdett; a grandson, David A. Cummickel; three sisters, Elizabeth and Nettie Ure and Margaret Weir; and two brothers, James and Donald Ure, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Walter E. Cummickel and his wife, Ann, Cameron, Mo.; a son-in-law, Roland E. Burdett Jr., Alexandria, Va.; five grandsons: Rodney E. Cummickel, Garland, Texas, Kevin A. Cummickel, Lee's Summit, Mo., and Roland E. Burdett, III, Barry A. Burdett and Brian A. Burdett, all of Alexandria, Va.; a granddaughter, Jill Saighman, Blue Springs, Mo.; four great- grandsons, John Cummickel, Garland Texas, Marc Saighman, Blue Springs, Mo., and Roland J.A. Burdett and Henry Thomas Burdett, both of Alexandria, Va., five great-granddaughters, Jennifer Cummickel, Garland, Texas, Nicole Saighman, Blue Springs, Mo., Kayla Cummickel, and Kendra Cummickel, both of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Emily Bhavya Burdett, Alexandria, Va.; two nieces, Barbara Tillman, Wakarusa, and Betty Crow, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Mount Hope Chapel Garden Mausoleum.

Burial will be in the Singing Tower Section of Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends and relatives may visit from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Carey Funeral Home, Burlingame.
