Pvt. Sydney E. Deardorff was the son of Walter C. and Violet Deardorff of Hanford, Ca. He graduated fron Hanford Union High School in 1937 and attended Visalia College. Sydney joined the Army Air Corps in June of 1941 and received his traning at Albuquerque, N.M. He took part in the Philippine campaign early in the war. First he was reported missing in action. Later his parents received word that he was killed on the Shinyo Maru, a Japanese prisoner of war ship.
He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal and is on the Gold Star list for WWII.
