Austin Lad, 7, Hit By Truck, Killed Instantly

A 7-year-old boy, Jimmy Joe Nicholson, became Austin's third traffic fatality of 1953 Thursday at 4:50 p.m. when he dashed into Canadian Street and was hit by a truck. He was killed instantly.

Officers R. C. Scott and R. A. Renck, who investigated the accident, said the boy and two other small children were playing near the foot of Canadian Street when the Nicholson youth ran into the street and was struck by a truck driven by Arthur E. Neyens of 2302 Canterbury Street.

The truck, owned by Travis Materials Incorporated of 31 Canadian, was being driven south by Neyens. It did not pass over the body.

The boy lived less than a block from the scene of the tragedy, at 2111 Bergman Street.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Pierce of Austin; three sisters, Hellen Nicholson, Janette Pierce and Linda Pierce, all of Austin; two brothers, Darval Dean Nicholson and Clarence Albert Pierce, both of Austin.

Funeral services are pending at the Cook Funeral Home.
