BAILEYVILLE--Merlin H. Bergman, 76, Baileyville,died Sunday, May 9, 1999 at home. He had cancer sinced 1975.

He was born March 10, 1923, southeast of Baileyville to Edward J. and Rose Hulsing Bergman. He graduated from Baileyville High School in 1941. He was a farmer and lived north of Vermillion for many years. He also did custom work for area farmers. He retired in 1987 and moved into Baileyville.

He had served on the boards of directors of the Cooperative at Vliets, the Upper Black Vermillion Watershed District and Lincoln Township in Marshall County.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville where he served on the church council and cemetery board for several years. He was a member of K of C Council No. 1769 in Seneca.

He and Leona Koelzer were married Aug. 19, 1954 in Baileyville. She survives.

Other survivors include sons, Stephen, Maurice and Roger, all in Vermillion; daughters, Connie Campfield, Lincoln, Neb., Denise Kohake, Centralia and Staci Korte, Seneca; sisters: Rose Edna Haug, Baileyville, Grace Kohake, Seneca, and Liena Mary Wasley, Livermore, Calif., and 11 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville, with burial in the church cemetery.
