Rachel M. Deters, 70, of Baileyville, KS, died Saturday, June 30, 1979, at Bryam Memorial Hospital, Lincoln, NE. She had been transferred there from the Pawnee Hospital. She suffered a cerebral hemorrhage at home on June 19, 1979.
She was born March 17, 1909, at Seneca, KS, the daughter of Louis and Mary Engelken Rettele. She grew up and attended St. Benedict, KS schools.
She married Lawrence H. Deters on February 11, 1931, at St. Mary's Church, St. Benedict, KS.
They farmed most of their married life 2 1/2 miles north of Baileyville. About 4 years ago, they moved into Baileyville.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, St. Ann's Altar Society, and the Benedictine Oblate, all at Baileyville. She was active in church work and did a lot of fine quilting.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence H., of the home; sons, Elmer Deters, Gilbert Deters, Larry Deters, all of Centralia, KS; Virgil Deters and Mark Deters, Baileyville, KS; Paul Deters, Axtell, KS; Donald Deters, Vermillion, KS; daughters, Mrs. Mary Ruhkamp, Hanover, KS; Mrs. Audredy Feldkamp, Baileyville, KS; Mrs. Elaine Duryea, Baileyville, KS; Mrs. Rosann Huninghake, Seneca, KS; Mrs. Karlene Ronnebaum, Seneca, KS; Mrs. Marceil Bergman, Seneca, KS; brother, Edwin Rettele, Denver, CO; sisters, Mrs. Florina Macke, Seneca, KS; Mrs. Mildred Melcher, Seneca, KS; Mrs. Margaret Hasenkamp, Soldier, KS; Mrs. Eileen Herr, Kansas City, MO; and fifty four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Reva Margaret on February 27, 1948, and three grandchildren, Kenny Lackey, Janice Lackey and Ricky Deters.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Baileyville, KS. Burial was in the church cemetery.
