Born in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late D.D. Kimbrell and stepmother Frances Bishop Kimbrell. Mr. Kimbrell is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen Brockman Kimbrell; his son and daughter-in-law, L. Daniel Kimbrell Jr. and Cheryl Kimbrell of Boiling Springs; his daughter and son-in-law, Candace Kimbrell Johnson and Steve Johnson of Greer; four grandsons and one granddaughter; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Lucille Parker and Grace Smith.
Mr. Kimbrell was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Hawaii. He was Assistant Supervisor of Spartanburg County Roads and Bridges and was retired from South Carolina Department of Agriculture.
He was a former member and deacon of Cross Roads Baptist Church and a current member of Abner Creek Baptist Church.
Services will be today, Feb. 11, at 3 p.m. in Abner Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Frank Keels and the Rev. Vernon Thornhill, with burial at church cemetery. Visitation follows the services in the church sanctuary.
Pallbearers will be Vince Kimbrell, Vance Bridges, Danny Ray Kimbrell, and Michael Paul Kimbrell, grandsons; Don Thompson, grandson-in-law; and Devin Kimbrell, great-grandson.
Flowers will be accepted. However, memorials may be made to Abner Creek Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2461 Abner Creek Road, Greer, SC 29651.
