J.A. Medlin of Thayer, former resident of this county and who lived on a farm in this vicinity for a number of years, died at his home near Thayer last Sunday afternoon of acute gastritis. The body was brought to this city yesterday and interred in Little Prairie cemetery, following funeral services conducted by the Rev. D. K. Foster at the Baptist church at 4 0'clock in the afternoon. Pall bearers were Messrs. Geo. Hale, Geo. B. Garrett, Harvey McFarland, John McFarland, J.M. Crockett and J.M. Glasscock, and a large number of friends and relatives of the family were in attendance at these last rites.
Mr. Medlin was born on June 14, 1861, and therefore was aged a little more than 65 years. He had been in good health up to a short time before his death, which occurred suddenly about 2:30 am Sunday and following an illness of only about four hours duration, the ailment evidently affecting his heart.
The deceased is survived by three sons and one daughter by a first marriage, as follows: Lonnie and Roy Medlin, living near this city, Herman who lives in Muskegon, Mich., and Mrs. Daisy Heglar of St. Louis, also a son and daughter by a later marriage. Lem and May, who lived with their parents at Thayer, in addition to the widow. There are also one brother and two half-brothers living in and near this city, Messrs. W.H. Medlin and M.A. and T.J. Medlin.
Mr. Medlin lived here for the greater part of his life, removing to Thayer some six or eight years ago, where he purchased a farm and where he was doing quite well at farming and stock raising. He had many friends here who recognized in him a man of sterling character and of genial, likeable disposition, and without exception they regret his untimely and sudden passing.
