Military: Served in the Civil War in the 67th Regt. of the Enrolled Missouri Militia. He was commissioned a
Captain in Co C on August 15, 1862, vacated March 12, 1865. He was in the Union Army. There is a copy of a
tin type taken at the beginning of the war showing him holding his rifle with bayonet fixed. The holder of the
tin type is his daughter, Rozetta Kelley Padden.


Marrige 1) Kitty Noble who died in childbirth with their first child. Her parents are unknown. Christopher may have become a doctor
because of Kitty's tragic death. They were both very young.

2) Cordelia Howard married him on October 6, 1862 in Lincoln County Missouri. she was the daughter of John
and Judy Ann Howard. Cordelia had 5 children and died in April 1877. Christopher was left with several small
children.

3) Violet Elvira Weaver married him in November 1879. She raised Cordelia's children and 12 of her own. She
committed suicide in 1915 by hanging herself in the stairwell. Her parents were John Newton and Violet
Louisa (Pringle) Weaver.

Children: Christopher Kelley's children are listed in his family Bible. The Bible is owned by Wanona Pinard.

Church-Public Office: Christopher Kelley was a minister of the gospel for the Church of Christ for many years.
He was elected a member of the Illinois House of Representatives in the 43rd General Assembly in 1904. His
daughter Rozetta said he introduced the bill for free textbooks in Missouri so all the children could go to
school. They got all thier books furnished by the state. He was living in Barry County at the time. He was a
Republican.

MRS. C. G. KELLEY SUICIDE

Christopher G. Kelley (Republican), Representative from Barry county , was born in Johnson county, Illinois, January 1, 1840. He attended the common schools of Illinois and those of Missouri, his parents having moved to Montgomery county, Missouri, when he was 15 years of age. During the Civil war he entered the Federal service and was captain in Company "C," 67th Regiment, E.M.M. He married Violet E. Weaver of Council Grove, Kansas, and is now a practicing physician and farmer at Eagle Rock, Missouri. He was elected a member of the house in the Forty-third General Assembly in 1904, never before having held public office.
