She was born June 4, 1915, in Richland Township to Ephraim and Ida Steiner Amstutz, who preceded her in death. On June 1, 1945, she married Harold P. Schumacher, who died March 16, 1996.
Mrs. Schumacher was a homemaker and had worked at Ruffs, Bluffton. She was a longtime member of Grace Mennonite Church, Pandora, where she had been a Sunday school teacher, deaconess and a member of its Women in Mission. She was a volunteer at MCC Et Cetera Shop, Bluffton, for 23 years and loved to create floral arrangements from donated materials for resale. She attended Bucher School and was a graduate of Bluffton High School. During World War II, she and her husband served in Civilian Public Service at the Exeter Training School, Rhode Island. She was a wonderful wife and mother.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas J. (Joyce) Schumacher and Timothy R. (Janet) Schumacher, both of Pandora; two daughters, Nancy L. (Robert) Neff, of Bluffton, and Susan (Charles) Cook, of Toledo; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Eugene Paul Schumacher; four brothers, Clarence U., Allen, Francis and Willis Amstutz; and four sisters, Lillian M. Amstutz, Burdella (Pearl) Geiger, Mabel (Clarence) Jones and Rhoda (Otis) Burkholder.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace Mennonite Church, Pandora. The Rev. David Maurer will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Pandora.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Bluffton, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chicago Mennonite Learning Center or the Mennonite Central Committee.
