GALIVANTS FERRY A. David Altman , 81, of Pee Dee Road, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at his residence.

Mr. Altman was born in Gallivants Ferry, a son of the late Alexander Bruce Altman Sr. and Leila Atkinson Altman . He was a member of Aynor United Methodist Church and was a former Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Administrative Board Chairman and choir member. Mr. Altman was a member of American Legion Post 81 in Aynor and of the Forty and Eight. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, having served with the 2nd Infantry Division, was in the Battle of the Bulge and the D-Day Invasion. After 33 years of service Mr. Altman retired in 1987 as the Veterans Service officer of Horry County. He was a retired farmer and was predeceased by his wife Mary Catherine McCarrel Altman .

Surviving are one daughter: Catherine Elizabeth Altman Lamb and her husband Rev. Stephen R. Lamb of Arcadia, Fla.; three sons: Dr. William David ''Bill'' Altman and his wife Sharon, Mac Altman and his wife Michelle, and Gary A. Altman and his wife Leanne, all of Gallivants Ferry; three brothers: A.B. Altman Jr. of Summerville, Luther D. Altman of Gallivants Ferry and George F. Altman of Moncks Corner; two sisters: Helen A. Knight of Summerville and Leona A. Rutland of North Charleston; and eleven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at his residence on Pee Dee Road. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 1, from Aynor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Mardis officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
