Allen, Charles Woodruff

ALLEN. - At the home of his son, J. S. Allen, in this city, October 28, 1894, of old age, Charles Woodruff Allen, aged 97 years, 6 months and 16 days.
Deceased was born in Fletcher, Vermont, April 12, 1897; when sixteen years of age he went to Russelltown, East Canada, where he met Miss Phoebe Manning whom he married, March 25, 1823, at Chateaugay, Clinton County, New York. In 1857 Mr. and Mrs. Allen moved from Keokuk, Iowa, to Floyd County. Mrs. Allen bought the farm known as the Charles Treat farm, tow and one half miles southwest of the city. This he sold in 1877 and went to live with his son, James, in this city with whom he resided until his death. He has been a member of the M. E. Church for over 60 years, was a good citizen and the oldest man in Floyd County. He was sick but two weeks. Fifteen children were born to this couple, five are deceased. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Phoebe Allen, age 87 years, 7 months and 16 days, and ten children to mourn his loss, four of whom live in this city.
The funeral occurred at the residence of his son, James, Monday, October 29, at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. T. M. Evans. A large number of friends followed the remains to its last resting place in Riverside Cemetery.

Jacob C. Allen died of disease on June, 9, 1864 at Memphis, TN, and is buried at Memphis National Cemetery, Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, USA, Plot: Section 2, grave 439

His Mother (Phoebe Allen) applied for a pension on Oct. 20, 1887 from the state of IA application # 362,349.
