Miss Kathryn Abel Died at Hutchison
Katherine May Abel, 24 years old, elder daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Abel, died Sunday night, September 15, at a hospital in Hutchison, Kansas, following a prolonged illness. She was born in Carroll, Iowa, and went with her parents to Hutchison in 1912. She received her public education in Hutchison and Tulsa and attended Kendall College, at Tulsa for 4 years. She had 4 years of piano and voice at Tulsa University.
She united with the First Methodist church when 7 years old, during a revival meeting held by her father while he was pastor of the church. She was an active member of the church and a faithful member of the choir.
She loved her music and she and her father specialized in Negro spirituals. When her health would not permit her to carry out her ambition to become a trained nurse, she turned her attention to evangelistic singing.
Miss Abel is survived by her father, superintendent of the Hutchison district, her mother and sister, Margaret.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the first Methodist church and burial was in Memorial Park cemetery in Hutchison.
Miss Abel was a niece of H. W. Abel of this city.
