Highly Esteemed Resident Passes Away After Long Illness - Funeral This Afternoon at 3 o'clock.
Mrs. J. T. Manies passed away yesterday afternoon at 5:10 o'clock at her home on North Cedar street after a long illness. Several months ago Mrs. Manies, whose health had not been good for some time, went to St. Peter's hospital and was operated on there. She improved shortly afterward and for quite awhile was getting along splendidly. Lately she grew worse, the end coming yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Manies, prior to her marriage, February 8, 1888, was Miss Sarah Elizabeth Blackwelder, daughter of the late Col. L. A. Blackwelder. She was in her 48th year, having been born February 28, 1863, and is survived by her husband and five children, namely: Charles, William, May, Morrison and Ruth Manies. Two sisters and three brothers also survive, namely, Mrs. A. P. Brown of High Point, Mr. C. B. Blackwelder of Greenville, S. C., Mr. Sinclair Blackwelder, Mr. E. F. Blackwelder and Miss Louisa Blackwelder of Charlotte. The funeral will take place at the home, No. 219 North Cedar street, this afternoon at 3 o'clock, being conducted by Rev. H. M. Pressly, pastor of the West Avenue Presbyterian church. The interment will be at Elmwood.
Mrs. Manies was a consistent and devout member of the Presbyterian Church and so long as her strength permitted was interested in all good work. She had a host of friends in the city and was greatly beloved by all those who came in contact with her.
