UNCLE DEE BODENHAMER
Written by Wayne Franklin Bowman sometime prior to 1962, not dated or signed,
but believed to be in his handwriting)

Uncle Dee Bodenhamer was born Dewitt C. (Clinton) Bodenhamer on April 13th (14th?) 1864. His father was William Gaus (Goss) Bodenhamer and his mother was (Martha Ellis Biles) Bodenhamer.

Uncle Dee, as he is affectionately know over most of Lampasas and Burnet County, was born in ________ County, Alabama (Lee County, Mississippi). He was the last of eleven children - six boys and five girls.

His father and two oldest brothers, Tom and Lee were soldiers in the Confederate Army. Tom was killed and Lee was wounded. Billie was too young to serve.

Lee was the first to come to Texas. The rest of the family boarded a boat in Mobile, Alabama and landed in Galveston, Texas in 1869. From there they went to Burleson County where they settled and lived until 1881 when they moved to the Naruna area of Burnet County.

On the 14th of August 1889 (1881?) Uncle Dee was united in marriage with Emma Josephine Bowman. The ceremony was performed by Judge Zimmerman at his home where George and Winnie Hammond now live.

Uncle Dee and Aunt Emma set up house keeping on the old Felix Harrall place located one half mile northwest from the Zimmermans. After about one year they moved to the O'Hair place where they lived until when they purchased and moved to the present place where he now lives.

To Uncle Dee and Aunt Emma four children were born. The first two died in infancy, and then came Frank and Ruth (Ruth Ellis Bodenhamer married Everett Morris Vann and Frank Melvin Bodenhamer married Agnes McClean). Aunt Emma passed away at the age of __ (83) years. Since then Ruth has been living with her father.

Uncle Dee, carrying the blood of his Dutch ancestors, has always been an industrious and hard worker. He has always been temperate of all things. Religious, but has a sense of humor that makes him beloved by everybody.
