Carlyle C. 'Nuban' Bryan, Sr.

Carlyle "Nuban" Claudius Bryan Sr., 97, of Seadrift, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008.

He was born March 26, 1910, in Seadrift, to the late Cladius Byran and Mary Coward Bryan. He was a retired commercial fisherman and a member of First Baptist Church of Seadrift.

Bryan was a veteran of World War II where he achieved the rank of private in the U.S. Army. He was qualified as a marksman rifleman and served his country in the Aleutian Islands campaign. He was awarded the following decorations and citations: American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal, Assiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with one bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, one service stripe, and four overseas service bars.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Matamoroz Bryan of Seadrift; daughters, Gloria Rolison of San Antonio and Priscilla Vasquez of Washington, D.C.; sons, Joe Louis Bryan Sr. of Ingleside, Carlyle Claudius Bryan Jr. of Victoria, and George Allen Bryan of Seadrift; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joe Albert Bryan; sister, Allie Womack; brother, Buddy Allen Bryan; and grandson, Ruben H. Bryan.

There was a visitation from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, followed by a funeral service at First Baptist Church of Seadrift. Bro. Gerry Davis and Bro. Dennis Wittenbert officiated. Burial with military honors was under the auspices of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4403 Port Lavaca at Seadrift Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rolondo Rico Sr., Marcus Blevins, Buddy Cross, Ted Gill, Butch Hodges, and Donald Holder.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First Baptist Church of Seadrift Recreational Center Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements were under Artero Memorial Chapels, Port Lavaca.
