Son of Andrew Kroeg and Bertha (Kloss). Born January 25, 1858, at Charleston, South Carolina. Ancestors of German Descent. Attended the Charleston High School, and graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, class of 1878. Married Miss Ida Bernadine Heins, in 1883. Engaged as drug clerk, until 1882, then went in business on his own account and continued until 1893. He is now engaged in the real estate and insurance business. Organized the Germania Fire Insurance Company, of Charleston, and is secretary and treasurer of same. Instrumental in organizing the Germania Building and Loan Association, alderman of Charleston four years. Organized the first chain-gang system in this State, in Charleston County, and chairman of board for management of convicts eight years. Member of park board of Charleston several years. Captain of Palmetto guards. Chariman of Committee and grand marshall of Fantastic Parade, during first gals week ever held in the city of Charleston. Past Chancellor Knight of Pythias Lodge of Charleston. Instrumental in organizing first uniform rank company of Knight of Pythias, in South Carolina, and Captain of Palmetto Company Number 1, Uniform Rank Knights of Pythias several years. Afterwards elected lieutenant-colonel of same company. Member of examining board of Pharmaceutical Association ten years.
