Jennie Nichols, sixth child of Lazarus and Margaret Louise Means Nichols, was born January 26, 1869 in De Witt County, Texas. In the 1870 Federal Census for De Witt County, the Nichols household consists of Lazarus and his wife Margaret Louise, son Morgan Oliver, daughter Lenora Jane, daughter Elizabeth Ann, twins Elisha and Eliza, and Jennie.

In 1880, two more children have been added to the family: a daughter whose name on the census record is very difficult to read, but may be Sidda, and another daughter named Della.

On May 3, 1887, 18-year-old Jennie married Millard F. Chaddock, who was 32 years old. The 1900 Federal Census for De Witt County states that Jennie was the mother of five children, four of whom were living. These four were listed as Robert, Thomas, Horace and Temple.

On the 1910 Federal Census for De Witt County, son William B. Chaddock has joined the family.

In 1920, the census taker apparently had a problem with spelling the family name. They are listed on the census as the Jhacok family, but it is unmistakably the Chaddocks; listed are M. F., Jennie, Tom, Horace, Temple and the only daughter, Fannie Bess, who had been born in 1910. Son Thomas was to die of pneumonia brought on by influenza on February 22, 1920, shortly after the census was taken.

Millard Chaddock died in 1929. Jennie stayed in De Witt County, living with son Horace, until her death of a cerebral hemmorhage brought on by hypertension on August 23, 1939. She was buried in Lost Creek Cemetery outside of Cuero, De Witt County, Texas, along with her husband, and her sons, Thomas and William.

Gravesite Details
