Son of Jonathan Parkhurst and Mary Whittmore. Husband of Lydia Gilbert Cary/Carey. Father of Nathan, Gilbert, Clarissa, Lydia and Lucy. Served in the NH Militia during the American Revolution. Mustered an unregimented militia -Parkhurst's Battalion - during the War of 1812. Early settler of Hastings, said to be the first postmaster.
