Lewis Rockwell, a former attorney with several Detroit law firms and a World War II Navy veteran, died of complications from a stroke Saturday at Brooking Park, a retirement home in Chesterfield, Mo., where he lived the past two years. He was 90.

Mr. Rockwell most recently worked with the law firm of Bodman LLP in Detroit from 1990 until his retirement in 2006, focusing his practice primarily on corporate, employment and estate planning law.

"As a senior member of the firm, he mentored many younger attorneys," said Christopher Dine, a partner with Bodman and a former associate of Mr. Rockwell. "He was a true professional and will be missed by the many colleagues, clients and friends whose lives he touched."

Born in Detroit, Mr. Rockwell graduated from Cooley High School in 1936 and received his undergraduate degree in history from Wayne State University in 1941.

After enlisting in the Navy, he entered officers' training school, received the rank of lieutenant and was commissioned as a commander of amphibious assault ships used to land tanks on beaches. He saw action in both the European and Pacific theaters.

He married his wife, Jean Wood, while on leave in October 1944.

After the war, he attended Wayne State University Law School, earning his degree in 1947. He joined a firm which later became known as Kenny, Radom and Rockwell and worked there until 1978, when he established his own practice, Rockwell and Kotz in the Penobscot Building in Detroit. He later joined the Bodman firm.

His wife died in January 1999.

Survivors include his daughter, Louise R. (Richard C.)Jensen; two grandchildren, Richard J. "Arjay" Jensen (Alicia) and Morgan L. Jensen and four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, William and Miles Jensen.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods.

A memorial service is scheduled for noon Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills.
