He was born May 9, 1940, in Petersburg, the son of James L. and Audie M. Ferguson Gillmore. He married Martha Fillbright in 1960 in Petersburg.
Mr. Gillmore worked at the Petersburg Observer for more than 30 years and The State Journal-Register for five years and retired from the state of Illinois Military Affairs after 13 years. He was a former member of the Menard County Rescue Squad and Petersburg Fire Department.
